TIPS FOR READING COMPREHENSION

The following activities are always advisable while going through the reading compression passage:

  • Read the given passage first thoroughly, just in the same way as you meet a stranger who is to become your friend (i.e. read the passage with interest through that may be uneasy for comprehension).
  • Complete concentration is necessary while reading the passage for the first time.
  • Read the passage second time concentrating in unfamiliar words and unfamiliar parts.
  • First and second reading is enough to comprehend the passage. Take the contextual meaning, even avoiding the words beyond your knowledge. Contextual meanings of words are much more helpful in comprehension of the passage rather than dictionary meaning of those words.
  • Never read the questions before reading the passage. It betrays your concentration and the passage becomes more complicated for comprehension.
  • Remember: First comprehend the passage and then answer the questions. In this way, the questions help further in comprehension.
Caution:
  • Remark whether the instruction directs-Tick Mark or encircle the best answer or option-----or Answer the question in short. Do accordingly.
